Williamson County · Texas
Georgetown site plans and permits.
Georgetown permits decks on its residential miscellaneous application, and may ask for an engineer's stamp on decks over 6 ft high.
Building code
2021 International Residential Code, in effect since November 1, 2023.
Deck permit
Decks are permitted through the Residential Miscellaneous Application. The city states no size or height exemption.
Sheds
Storage buildings, garages and carports in city limits need a permit. Accessory buildings can total at most 25% of the house's floor area and cover at most 30% of the rear yard.
Owner-drawn plans
The city's pages don't say who may draw deck plans.
Engineer
For a deck more than 6 ft above grade, the city says engineer-stamped plans may be required. DrawPermit flags these decks before checkout. Accessory buildings over 200 sq ft need an engineered foundation plan.
Setbacks
Accessory structures 8 ft tall or less may sit in the rear setback, but not in any public utility easement. Confirm the exact distance with the city.
Where to apply
What Georgetown asks the site plan to show.
- Official survey showing the property lines
- Deck location with dimensions
- Impervious cover calculation, on the survey or the city's worksheet
- Construction drawings including footing details
Your DrawPermit site plan draws the lot lines, north arrow, scale, structures, setbacks, distances to each line and impervious cover. Add utility lines, meters and trees by hand if your city asks for them.
Checked against the city's own pages on October 30, 2026. Rules change, so confirm with Georgetown before you submit.
